edited by Arthur L. Costa and Bena Kallick:
Book 1:

Activating and Engaging Habits of Mind Book 3:
Assessing and Reporting on Habits of Mind Book 4:
Integrating and Sustaining Habits of Mind
(click the links to see excerpt chapters of each book)
We hope you will use the books listed here to illuminate, exemplify,
and characterize the habits of mind in your classroom discussions.
Encourage students to consider the habits of mind as they read,
and when they write book reports, include such questions as:
- Which habits of mind were depicted in the book?
- Which habits of mind did the characters display?
- How did your familiarity with the habits of mind help you understand
the tensions, conflicts, characters, climax, and plot of the
story?
While any book list is immediately incomplete and dated, you should
find this one to be a valuable organizational system by which to
collect and classify additional titles. We thank Kathy Lobuglio
and Dina Shein for organizing and compiling this list.

The Lists
Each list includes titles in alphabetical order, followed by author's
last name, a short statement about the book's story line, and a
number corresponding to which habits of mind the book illustrates.
Please note: The list is a work in progress. Only the high
school list includes books corresponding to all 16 habits of mind;
the other lists are keyed to the first 12 habits only. ASCD hopes
to list additional books for habits 13 to 16 in the near future.
